Minimalist Skincare Routine

One of my goals for the new year was to be consistent with a skincare routine. I've found a few products I love and wanted to share my routine with you!

I have combination skin; I've struggled with acne as an adult but the topical benzoyl peroxide or salicylic products/washes would be too harsh and cause my skin to be dry and peeling. I saw a dermatologist for a while and took antibiotics which moderately helped but also caused extreme nauseousness (and was not safe to take while/or if planning to become pregnant).

Many people talk about how wonderful coconut oil is and it's in a lot of the more natural skincare products, but it breaks me out if I put it on my face. I have to be careful with what products I use because I think my skin is a bit sensitive, so I need to make sure it's not too drying nor going to cause breakouts.

The biggest thing I've found that has completely cleared up my skin in the last year is completely removing dairy from my diet. I couldn't believe it made such a difference at first but the few times I've been out and had something to eat with cheese or a coffee with a dairy creamer, I've broken out. I just wish I had discovered this sooner because my skin has completely cleared.

All that said, here are the products I've been loving!

Morning Routine:

This cleanser isn't too harsh and a little goes a long way!

I mist this over my face to help retain moisture and prep my skin.

I've tried a lot of eye creams. This one is my favorite! It goes on smoothly, doesn't burn or irritate my eyes, absorbs easily and doesn't leave a shiny residue.

I LOVE this product. Vitamin C is amazing for your skin, but this one from Peak Scents is not only affordable and comes in a gorgeous blue glass bottle, but smells like a garden - not in an overpowering way, just enough to make it a luxurious experience while you apply it.

Finally I mist my face with this Rose Water spray to lock in moisture! I'll sometimes use it again throughout the day if I need a refresher.

That's it for my morning routine! It takes me less than five minutes. I haven't been wearing foundation (except for fancy occasions) for a while now since my skin has cleared but I'll usually do my eyes and sometimes add a blush or a lip.

Nightime Routine:

My nightime routine is very similar with the exception of a few products.

I'll mist again with the Skin & Co Truffle Therapy Toner to prep my skin as well as using the 100% Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream again.

I'll then use a few drops of my Malin + Goetz recovery treatment oil which I love because it is deeply moisturizing and repairing but doesn't break me out.

Finally, I'll apply my Power Repair Nourishing Face Cream by Peak Scents to my neck and face.

Sometimes I'll do either this or the above Recovery Treatment oil on my face as both are moisturizing, based on how my skin is feeling. But don't forget about your neck! I also use whatever is left on my hands after applying and rub it into my elbows.

And that is my current skincare routine! Have you tried any of these products? What's your favorite skincare item?
